This will be a very unique section on my blog. I came up with this idea after watching Yelp and Urbanspoon take off. All of a sudden anyone with a computer, and now a smart phone, can write reviews. Who are these people? What makes them qualified to do reviews and in some cases write nasty stuff that can cost someone their livelihood? So I’m going to flip the script on these so-called ” Reviewers” and I’m going to write about them and review them.

I will use my rating scale of Beers:

Four = Outstanding

Three = Good

Two = OK

One = Needs work

Zero = Sucks (No beer is never a good thing.)

So first person up is 4 time Yelp Elite and Community Manager of Broward Palm Beach, Blue A:
“Blue A” Yelp Profile

To set the record straight, I don’t like this guy. He is one of the driving forces of me starting my own blog. He runs the Broward Palm Beach Yelp Community like a high school and he plays favorites. To put it mildly, all the Yelp Elites kiss his ass because, otherwise, they won’t get invited to any free events. As for me, Danny Boy, I don’t kiss anyone’s ass.
Blue has over 700 reviews and I do like his writing style. He has a quick wit and obviously he goes to a lot of places. I’m not sure if he has a background in the restaurant or retail business. It would be nice to know his background more. The mere fact that you go out to eat a lot doesn’t make you an Elite with anything. Based on his writing alone and content, I would give him 3 Beers. After skimming thru all of his reviews one caught my eye, Laser Wolf.
Blue A: Laser Wolf review

After reading this it was clear that his personal feelings about his employer, Yelp, corrupts his reviews. This in turn makes what he writes not credible.

A girl kicking stones? What does that have to do with business? Did you want her kicked out? Did you complain to the manager that she was messing up your vibe and you wanted her removed?

As for the beer being horrible, did you tell management it was horrible and ask for a new one? Do they brew beer at Laser Wolf? If they don’t, how is a horrible tasting beer that they didn’t brew a dig on them?

The dog at the bar is an issue. I see that as valid complaint. It’s probably a code violation too and you writing about it definitely threw them under the bus. If you had the guts to type it, I hope you had the guts to tell the management to their face about your issues with the dog.

Now, the meat and potatoes of this review. This wasn’t about beer, a dog, or a chick kicking rocks. This review had to do with Blue as the Community Manager for Yelp being made fun of by the social media post from Laser Wolf. Blue was giving them “free promotion”. Think about that statement. Here you have an employee of Yelp talking like he is the godfather of advertisement. One of the main complaints about Yelp is the use of strong arm tactics to get businesses to advertise with them. Clearly, Blue didn’t get the warm and fuzzy feeling he was hoping for when he made his post on social media. Because they basically told him to shove it, this hurt his feelings and he showed them by giving them one star. Blue also made sure to remind them of their near perfect rating on Yelp. Again, another dig to let Laser Wolf know they should be thankful that he, the community manager, stopped by and that he is in charge.
Verdict
ZERO Beers as a Reviewer. Why? Because Blue has no credibility. He works for a money making company that relies on business like Laser Wolf to advertise with them. Having Blue do reviews is a conflict of interest. The Laser Wolf review is a clear picture of this flaw and why he shot his credibility in the foot.

Kudos to Laser Wolf for sticking up for themselves! Good job and I hope to stop by and check y’all out.  I hope the dog is there..I love dogs.
